ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO - An Azusa contingency award paid off to the tune of $100 cash for Duffy winner Aaron Hernandez at the Summer, 2005 I.K.F. Speedway/ Speedway Midget Grand Nationals.
Hernandez championed the Yamaha Heavy class, (a class coincidentally sponsored by Azusa Engineering) wearing his Azusa "Volare" style racing jacket made of abrasion-resistant Antron 500 denier fabric. Because he won his Duffy wearing Azusa Racewear, Hernandez won a $100 cash prize. (Watch upcoming issues of Karter News for more details on the event and Aaron's win.)
Originally announced in an advertisement for the event in the June issue of Karter News, Azusa Engineering offered $100 to any Duffy Award winner up to and including the first five champions wearing Azusa Racewear. A total payout of $500 was the possible for the event which was held July 12-16, 2005, hosted by the Albuquerque Speedway Karting Club and run at the Harvey Caplin Memorial Speedway in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Congratulations to Aaron for a fine win and for his choice of Azusa Racewear
Azusa plans to institute similar contingency awards at races throughout the United States and Canada in the future.
Azusa Engineering has been producing kart racing apparel since the early 1960's and actually coined the term "racewear." Karters may recognize that the racer in the Duffy trophy wears early Azusa racewear. All Azusa suits, jackets and pants are made in its plant in Covina, CA with focus on quality, safety and style. Along with its standard "Classic" and "Champ" styles in suits, jackets and pants, a wide variety of custom options are available, along with kart shoes, helmet collars, rib vests and kart gloves. Azusa's 12 page full color Racewear Brochure may be downloaded here.
